The Connection Between The Matrix and Nintendo Switch

This is a silly little theory I came up with. I was watching this video titled "The Matrix Trilogy Decoded by Mark Passio," and I thought that maybe the blue pill and red pill from The Matrix could apply to today's videogame-industry.

In The Matrix, ingesting the blue pill meant that the one who ingested it would return to the matrix, and ingesting the red pill meant that he or she would wake up from the illusion that was the matrix, and into the real world.

We all know that this generation, the three console-manufacturers have decided on one specific color to represent themselves and market around. Sony has chosen blue, Microsoft has chosen green, and Nintendo has chosen red.

If we equate each console-manufacturer's chosen color with a pill-color, we can see that Sony represents the blue pill, and Nintendo represents the red pill; there was no green pill in the movie.

This is a shaky theory, at best, but I do see how Nintendo Switch has been revelatory for a lot of gamers out there. Just as if someone had taken the red pill in The Matrix, people who have bought and played Nintendo Switch say that their metaphorical eyes have been opened to the truth, and a whole new way of gaming. I see posts on reddit all the time about people returning to Nintendo after decades, or people buying their first Nintendo-system with Switch and being blown away.

Just like the red pill, Nintendo Switch is simply a delivery-mechanism by which people can be woken to the truth:
"Above all, video games are meant to just be one thing: Fun for everyone."
~ Satoru Iwata
There's a counter to this theory that nullifies its entire premise, however. To create colors, computers use differing levels of red, green, and blue. Therefore, this counter-theory would be that we need all three of the console-manufacturers for there to be a full spectrum of colors in this gaming-universe. We need you, Sony. You, too, Nintendo. Even you, Microsoft.

So let's be at peace, and think that everyone thrives equally.
