The term 'e-sports' is not good

The term e-sports gets bandied about a lot, but it is such a bad term. It doesn't give sports the respect they deserve, nor does it do justice to the type of activity e-sports actually entails.

I do not know for certain, but the term e-sports was probably invented by insecure nerds who wanted the same respect that professional athletes got. The problem there, is that they were simply demanding respect instead of earning it slowly.

MLG, or Major League Gaming, was an acronym invented to resemble MLB, or Major League Baseball. It is woefully disrespectful of the history and minutiae that is involved with professional baseball. I am not a sports-nut, but I do understand how it is incongruous to equate professional sports with professional gaming.

The term e-sports painfully and cringingly makes it obvious that its proponents are trying to be something it is not. It would be like a bicycle calling itself a sidewalk-car, or females calling themselves fe-males, which is why some people have a problem with that term.

Calling the things we consider to be e-sports as e-sports doesn't do it any favors, because there is a lot of differences between professional sports and competitive video-gaming. When you call it e-sports, however, you immediately compare the two and determine which is better and which is worse, instead of trying to understand each thing separately for its own strengths. Imagine if everything was named in relation to another thing. Imagine if Hondas were called ghetto-Toyotas, or blades of grass were wannabe-trees. That would be terrible.

Instead of shoving that term 'sports' in there, call it something else, like competitive video-gaming. Chess never called itself desktop-sports. The e-sports term is so tacky and immature; I really hate it, and this needs to change.
