The Power Of NX - Balance Is Key

This is a response to:
https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoNX/comments/4zaqy0/whats_with_the_obsession_of_wanting_the_nx_to_be/

The first reaction I had to the title was, "Who actually wants NX to be 'the best'?" Not me. To be the best would be too costly and most people wouldn't buy it, or so I think, because of the price-tag. Look at gaming-PCs. Most people play graphically-unintensive games like LoL and CS:GO. Why? Because the computers that can run those games are more affordable.

One of the most prevalent things I noticed was how the writer presented everything as his or her predilections, and that's exactly what they are: just his or her own, personal predilections. Nintendo can't design the NX just for him or her.

These are the main reasons why I believe PS4  succeeded:
  • It was the most powerful console. The whole "PC Master Race" meme began cropping up on the internet, making console-gamers very insecure. They wanted to feel better about themselves.
  • It wasn't as offensive a brand as Xbox or Microsoft. I think most people outside the USA resent the country to a degree, and Microsoft represents one of its capstones.
  • It was also cheaper than Xbox One.
People want power. They don't need the most power, but they sure want it. Let's say there was only one PC-brand, one SKU, it was more powerful than consoles, pre-built, optimized for games, and was cheaper than consoles. They would easily outsell consoles. But we do not live in fantasy. There is a cost for everything.

Smart Nintendo-fans know that Nintendo shouldn't go all-out as far as power goes, but they should go far enough to ensure third-party support and mainstream interest.
